CATL Makes Powerful Hong Kong Debut: Global Battery Leader Expands Its Reach

Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL, 03750.HK) successfully debuted on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange today. BofA Securities, CICC, China Securities International, and J.P. Morgan served as joint sponsors for the listing.

CATL is a global leader in innovative new energy technology. The group primarily focuses on the research, development, production, and sales of power batteries and energy storage systems, aiming to drive the replacement of mobile and stationary fossil fuel energy sources while delivering integrated innovation through electrification and intelligent applications.

As of December 31, 2024, the group has established six major research and development centers and thirteen battery manufacturing bases worldwide, with service networks spanning 64 countries and regions. CATL serves the most extensive global client and end-user base in the industry. By the end of 2024, its power batteries had been installed in over 17 million vehicles worldwide, with one in every three new energy vehicles globally equipped with CATL batteries. The company's energy storage systems have been deployed in more than 1,700 projects globally.

According to the prospectus, 90% of the funds raised from this Hong Kong IPO will be invested in the first and second phases of CATL's Hungary project, further enhancing local supply capabilities and reinforcing the company's global leadership position in the new energy sector.

Financial reports indicate that CATL achieved annual revenue of 362.01 billion yuan in 2024, with net profit attributable to shareholders reaching 50.75 billion yuan, representing a 15.01% year-on-year increase. In the first quarter of 2025, the company reported revenue of 84.71 billion yuan and net profit attributable to shareholders of 13.96 billion yuan, demonstrating a significant 32.85% year-on-year growth.

At the listing ceremony, CATL Chairman and CEO Robin Zeng (Zeng Yuqun) stated: "CATL is not merely a battery component manufacturer, but also a provider of system solutions, and is committed to becoming a zero-carbon technology company. Under the major trend of the global new energy revolution, the zero-carbon economy is rapidly emerging. CATL will become a pioneer in the global zero-carbon economy."

Robin Zeng outlined the market prospects for the global zero-carbon economy and CATL's zero-carbon technology deployment across three key domains: global zero-carbon transportation, global zero-carbon electricity, and the new energy transformation of global industries.
