Chinese Energy Storage Firms Showcase Groundbreaking Battery Cell Technologies at CIBF 2025
Major innovations in energy storage cells highlight industry's rapid advancement
The 17th China International Battery Fair (CIBF) opened on May 15, 2025, at the Shenzhen International Convention and Exhibition Center. The premier industry event attracted over 3,200 exhibitors and a substantial number of industry professionals.
Among the most compelling developments at this year's fair were the breakthrough advancements in energy storage battery cell technology. Several leading manufacturers, including BYD Energy Storage, Ruipu Lanjun, Sunwoda, Churen New Energy, and others, unveiled their latest energy storage cell innovations.
REPT BATTERO Energy: Wending® 392Ah and 587Ah Cells
source: REPT BATTERO Energy
REPT BATTERO Energy showcased its 392Ah and 587Ah Wending® energy storage cells, both leveraging the company's core "Wending® Technology" competitive advantage.
The 392Ah cell is positioned to be the industry's first mass-produced next-generation large-capacity energy storage cell. It mitigates thermal runaway risks associated with ultra-large cells while maintaining compatibility with existing 280Ah production lines. With an impressive energy efficiency of 95%, it achieves the "safety-cost-efficiency" golden triangle.
The 587Ah energy storage cell sets new industry benchmarks with:
· 430Wh/L energy density and 3% improved space utilization
· 10,000 cycle lifespan and 25-year service life
· End-to-end cost reduction delivering 96.5% system energy efficiency
According to InfoLink Consulting data, in 2024, Ruipu Lanjun ranked 5th globally in overseas market cell shipments and 2nd worldwide in small energy storage cell shipments (including telecommunications). With the introduction of these new Wending® cells, Ruipu Lanjun is poised to further strengthen its position in the energy storage market.
Cornex: 472Ah Ultra-High Capacity Storage Cell
source: Cornex
Cornex made a significant impact at the exhibition with several industry breakthroughs, including the 472Ah ultra-high capacity energy storage cell, "Immersion Cooling 2.0" safety system, and CTP3.0 large-surface liquid cooling technology.
As a technical highlight of the fair, Churen's proprietary 472Ah energy storage cell is entering mass production. Each unit delivers 1510.4Wh capacity—a 50% increase over mainstream products—with a cycle life exceeding 12,000 cycles.
A 20-foot container storage system using these cells can achieve 6.9MWh capacity while reducing cost per kilowatt-hour by 20%, offering a more economical solution for large-scale energy storage stations and commercial/industrial applications.
Bak Power: 688Ah Prismatic Cell
source: Bak Power
Bak Power presented its comprehensive product portfolio spanning cylindrical, polymer, and prismatic battery lines to cover all application scenarios. In energy storage, BIKE introduced a 688Ah prismatic cell.
According to BIKE representatives, this cell achieves lower cost per watt-hour through material innovation and process improvements, enhancing storage economics. The product features extended cycle life, high energy density, and exceptional low-temperature performance, making it suitable for telecommunications base stations, home energy storage, and wind/solar generation applications.
With these characteristics, BIKE's prismatic products comprehensively cover applications from telecommunications base stations to home storage, commercial/industrial storage, and wind/solar power generation. The company has upgraded its integrated delivery capabilities across battery modules, storage systems, and containerized solutions.
VISION Group: 348Ah Storage Cell
source: Vision Group
VISION Group launched its new 6.48MWh liquid-cooled energy storage system, designed for power generation, grid applications, and commercial/industrial scenarios.
According to VISION representatives, this solution employs newly developed 348Ah+ energy storage cells with proprietary stacking technology. The system achieves comprehensive upgrades through six innovative dimensions: improved mass-energy density, multi-level electrical and fire safety protection, new high-efficiency reliable liquid cooling design, intelligent monitoring with multi-model diagnostic analysis, comprehensive compatibility architecture, and noise reduction engineering.
Additionally, VISION Group introduced an integrated base station solution combining telecommunications power supply, backup batteries, and intelligent management. This system offers long cycle life and high reliability while significantly reducing TCO and OPEX costs for operators. Its advanced network management system (NMS) enables efficient remote maintenance, while the all-in-one cabinet design provides green energy efficiency, space optimization, and flexible deployment for various scenarios.
Sunwoda: Ultra-Large Storage Cells + 5015kWh Liquid-Cooled Container
source: Sunwoda
Sunwoda has achieved remarkable success in the energy storage market in recent years. According to SNE Research data, in 2024, Sunwoda's global power battery installations reached 18.8GWh, earning it 17th place among global new energy enterprises and recognition as a BNEF Tier 1 global energy storage manufacturer.
The company's previously released 314Ah large storage cell garnered widespread market recognition for its high energy density, ultralong cycle life exceeding 12,000 cycles, and whole-life round-trip efficiency above 93%.
At CIBF 2025, Sunwoda exhibited its ultra-large storage cell + 5015kWh liquid-cooled container solution. This system features exceptional safety with automotive-grade self-developed cells capable of 10,000 cycles, compliance with NFPA855 safety standards, thermal runaway monitoring with multiple fire protection measures, and intelligent temperature control maintaining pack-level temperature differences below 2.5°C.
