  • Nissan's Bold Survival Strategy: 20,000 Job Cuts and Radical Restructuring Amid Financial Crisis

    May 14, 2025

Nissan Motor has just unveiled an aggressive restructuring plan aimed at slashing 500 billion yen in costs after reporting a staggering 670.9 billion yen net loss this fiscal year. The dramatic turnaround strategy includes: Cutting 20,000 jobs globally by FY2027 Reducing production plants from 17 to 10 Suspending their recently announced LFP battery factory in Kitakyushu Halting product development beyond FY2026 Focusing on key markets: US, Japan, China, Europe, Middle East and Mexico This comes after their potential merger with Honda collapsed earlier this year, putting additional pressure on the Japanese automaker's future. With debt maturities rising to $5.6B by 2026, Nissan is making tough decisions to survive in today's hypercompetitive automotive landscape. The company remains committed to its China strategy, where it plans to invest 10B yuan by 2026 and launch 10 new energy vehicles by summer 2027.
