Intensified Competition in Ultra Flagship Models, Some Brands May Pause New Releases
Published: February 12, 2025 16:43
In recent years, Ultra flagship models have gradually become the focal point of competition among smartphone manufacturers in the field of imaging technology. More and more manufacturers are adopting a 1-inch large sensor as the standard for their main cameras, with high-pixel telephoto lenses (such as 200-megapixel telephoto lenses) becoming the "mainstream" of the industry.
These flagship models are not only competing to offer the best photographic features in terms of hardware configuration but also introducing new innovations to meet the growing consumer demand for better imaging experiences.
However, with the continuous iteration of technology and intensified market competition, the phenomenon of "involution" in this field has become more serious. More and more manufacturers are going all out to capture market share, and some are feeling the pressure, with even "exit" voices emerging.
Recently, a digital blogger posted a message saying, "Due to the low sales share of Ultra models across various brands, some manufacturers in the top 5 are considering pressing the pause button on the next generation of Ultra models."
This news quickly sparked widespread discussion, with many netizens speculating which brand would stop releasing the next generation of Ultra flagship models. Some believe that Huawei and Xiaomi should be excluded, as Huawei still maintains strong influence in the high-end smartphone market, while Xiaomi is committed to driving market growth through high cost-performance, making it unlikely for them to abandon flagship development.
As the topic gained traction, a blogger quickly sought clarification from OPPO Find series product manager, Zhou Yibao. Zhou responded promptly, "Rumor refuted: it's not us! Ultra models are our flagship products." This response further clarified that OPPO would not abandon its Ultra series plans.
According to the blogger’s data on sales trends of various Ultra models, OPPO's Find X7 Ultra has not been at the bottom in terms of sales, and Zhou Yibao also revealed before the Spring Festival that OPPO's new Ultra model would continue to enhance its photography capabilities. This shows that OPPO remains confident in the future of this series.
Overall, since OPPO's Ultra model sales are relatively stable and the new Ultra model is already confirmed to hit the market, it can be ruled out that OPPO will exit the Ultra series.
As market competition becomes increasingly fierce, manufacturers must not only pursue innovations and breakthroughs in imaging but also face challenges related to market acceptance and cost control. The future development of Ultra flagship models will increasingly rely on the integration of technological innovation and brand strategies.
