SK Telecom, Honeywell to develop wireless sensors

SK Telecom has joined hands with Honeywell Korea, a provider of automation and control solutions, to jointly develop wireless sensors based on SK Telecom’s LoRa network technology.

Honeywell Korea plans to launch the LoRa-capable products including thermostats, presence sensors, pipe Temperature Sensors and fire safety products in the first quarter of 2017.
 
Wireless sensors applied with LoRa network technology can be installed in new homes / buildings and can replace the existing sensors, significantly driving down the construction and labor costs.
 
“Through the MOU, we will work with Honeywell Korea to expand the IoT market by combining our leading IoT technologies with Honeywell’s products in the field of automation and control,” said Kwon Song, head of IoT Solution Division of SK Telecom.
 
“With the application of SK Telecom’s IoT network technologies, we expect to strengthen our competitiveness and leadership through the provision of differentiated products and enter into the IoT-based smart home market,” said Hong Soon-Ho, president of Honeywell Korea.
 
SK Telecom, which has more than 29.45 million mobile subscribers, reached KRW 17.137 trillion in revenue in 2015.
 
SK Telecom became the world’s first mobile carrier to commercialize 150Mbps LTE-Advanced in June 2013 and 225Mbps LTE-Advanced in June 2014 through Carrier Aggregation (CA).
 
SK Telecom commercialized 300Mbps tri-band LTE-A CA in December 2014 and launched LTE-Advanced Pro in June 2016. The company has over 20.55 million LTE and LTE-Advanced subscribers as of the end of September 2016.
